For the first six months of this year wo imported

from China £3.3.million worth of goods and exported

£5.25 million worth of goods.

The reasons why China's export trade has not

developed as rapidly as China's needs, are described in

the attached extract from the Mission's Report. The

basic trouble in China is the tremendous increase in

wages, price levels and in transport costs, so that

export prices are completely out of line with world

prices and therefore China can find no market for her

goods.
